News has been received from South America of the resumption of hostilities between the Chilians and Peruvians. A severe battle has been fought at Mosquegua, "which resulted in the defeat of the Chilians, who suffered a loss of thirteen hundred killed and wonnded. Bombay, March 28. Intelligence has been received from Cabul that there has. been severe fighting between that city and Gundamak. Kohistan having effected a junction ■with another hostile tribe, made a desperate attack on the British position between Cabul and Gundamak. Heavy fighting ensued, and the enemy were repulsed "with great loss. The British loss is trifling. ♦ DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS. (REUTER S TELEGRAM PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, March 29. Gum : Labonde, first prize; Baker, Wellington, second prize. There are also sundry lower awards. The St. Leger was won by Petrea; Nellie, 2 ; Pontiff, 3. "Won by three lengths. Time, 3 min. 20 4-10 sec.
