THE LABOR MARKET. Jtr Henry Macintosh reports for the week* ending 24th January, as follows Business in the labor market increased very much during the week, the supply m classes being short of the demand. Harvesters are plentiful, yet from the general appwrance of the crops I have no doubt they will all be employed and the town quiet enough before the end of another week. We are looking forward to an increase ra the supply of female servants per vessel now in port. I hope they may be of the right class, a3 good general servants for town and country have always been scarce m Oamarn, anrt never more so than at present. Rate of wages unaltered. TBIARU. [BY TELEGRAPH.3 January 23. Messrs. Jonas, Hart, and Wildie held an important sate of woot, skins, hides, &c. T to-day. The attendance was veTy numerous, and the results exceptionally satisfactory, the prices being higher than has been obtained for IB months past. Lit 10s to LI2; oatmeal, Ll2; pearl barley, L 26; onions, 10s; oW cheese, id ; new do, 6d to &Jd ; bacon, rolled, Sjd; beef, 22s 6d; mutton, l§d. AUCKLAND. [by telegraph.] January 23. Business during the past week has been up to the average. The opening price of wheat will be about 5a for prime, delivered in good condition. It is too early to speak of the yield per acre and the quality, but it will not come out so wen as last years crop in either respect. Maize is firmer, stocks being cleared from first hands, and realises 3s 6a to 3b 9d for clean grain. Oats are dull at 2a 3d to 2s 6d. For bran there is * little demand, and it is offered at L 4 10s. Potatoes are being poured into the market, and in consequence the price depends on sellers. If they are to be sold, they may realise L 3 10s. ENGLISH IRON MARKET. DrrrEDfir, January 23. A cable message, dated London, Jan. 22, has been received in town giving the following information with regard to the advance in the price of iron : —"Hematite pig iron, L 7 per ton; girder plates, L 10; black gaspipes, 65 per cent, discount; iron screws, 65 per cent, discount.
