A meeting will be held at Newcastle tomorrow to consider means to alleviate the distress existing amongst miners in the district. An attempt was made to-day by a mounted man to bail up some Chinese living near Gundagai. The matter was reported to the police, who are now in pursuit of tke supposed bushranger. Mr. Buchanan has tabled a motion to censure the Governor for commuting the sentences of Williams and Bennett. King George's Sound, January 22. Arrived—P. and O. Company's steamship Assam, with the inward December Suez mails. Melbourne, January 23. There was an unexampled scene in the Legislative Assembly last night. Strangers were again excluded, and during that time a violent personal assault was made by Mr.Fergusson on Mr. M'lntyre.
