SALES OF STOCK AT THE CLOSE OF THE DUNEDIN SHOW.
I Messrs. M'Lean Bros, sold at the Show Grounds on Friday last, 011 account of James Dow, Esq., his Ayrshire bull Argyle, at 20 guineas, to David M'lvellar, Esq.; account William V»'addell, Esq., Ayrshire bull (Southland Champion), for 12 guineas, to Mr. Mason ; Fred. Button, Esq., the champii>n Lincoln ram, to John Keid, Esq., Elderslie, for 50 guineas ; Thomas Sutton, Esq., 13 Lincoln ewe I lioirgers at-lSi guineas each, to th.e same buyer ; ; and on account of C. ST., Orbell, Esq., one weight-carrying hack, at L 29. On Saturday, at the same place, Messrs. Wright, '.Stephc-nson and Co. 1 sold as follows The first - lot offered. : was Roah Summerton'2iid, a.:rick roan, calved 14th November, 1878 ;;. sire, Duke of Alvie; dam, Roan Duchess 4th, by Earl: pf Geneva (imported). heifer was supposed to be. the pick of the lot, although 'many preferred Flower of Brunswick 2nd, a very fine heifer by the same bull.- After some very lively bidding, Roan Summertoil was. knocked down to.. Mr. J. F. Kitching for 300 guineas. We may mention that her owner had expected 500 guineas for her. The next lot offered was Flower of Brunswick 2nd, a rather light rosin heifer, calved 26tli October, 1878 ; sire, Duke of ■ Alvie ;' dam, Butterfly's Flbwer, by Eoyal Butterfly. This heifer is a full sister to Mr. 'Menlove's champion heifer, Flower -of Brunswick, which has taken so many champion prizes, this year at: our - various shows. ' Mr. Menlove secured this heifer at L2OO guineas, Mr. J. ißeid, of Elderslie, bought privately a very fine heifer, Hose of Australia sth (red), calved 18th November, 1877 ; sire, Duke af Derrimut; dam, Rose of Australia,' by' Royal Butterfly 6th. She is a splendid heifer, ancl, from her fashionabje breeding, ought to be an acquisition tojthe herd-. She is in calf to the Duke of Alvie, the champion bull of Australia. Tlie two other heifers, are yet; unsold— Alvie's Butterfly . (white), calved 2Qth November, 1878; sire, Duke of Alvie; dam, Rosa's Butterfly, by Royal Butterfly. And Duchess of Brunswick 4th. (roan), calved 29th June, 1879 ; sire, Duke of Alvie ; dam, Countess of .Brunswick, by Earl of Genoa (imported). The bulls were all sold privately at satisfactory prices, wijth" the exception of one—the Earl, "of Bitiins'wicli '2nd, calved 9th Septfember, isj7B ; sire,. Duke of Alvie ; dam, Countess of'Brunswick 2nd, :by.'DuUe of Brunswick. Tfiis bulli was knocked down ;tp Mr. T.-. Bifydone for: 269 guineas. The Earl of Brunswick 2nd is half brother to Mr. jJhii-Heid's Earl of Brunswick, both beiing,-the .progeny jof .the. Countess of Brunswick-..'!,. .•« ; •.
