MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
The usual meeting of the Council took place lane evening, when there were present —Councillors Headland (in the chair). Roberts, Otterson, Mainland, Garland, Smith, Humphrey, and Townsend. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was i*ead and approved. Mr. John Thomson wrote drawing the attention of the Council to the impassable state of Glen-street, near section 20, block GO.—The letter was referred to. the Public Works Committee. Mr. P. Aitohison wrote with reference to the land required from him for waterworks, and drew attention to the fact that the Council had not yet completed the transfer, although he had been prepared to convey it for the last nine months.— After some discussion, it was resolved that Mr. Aitchison be informed that the Council would comply with the request as soon as it was in funds,. Messrs. A. and T. Burt wrote requesting payment of their account, amounting to L 1229 3s.—lt was resolved that they be informed that their account will be paid as soon as practicable. Mr. George Sumpter wrote asking if the Council could arrange to pay Mr. E,. Knight's claim for compensation for right-of-way to waterworks.—The letter, with ail other similar claims, was referred to the Waterworks Committee for report. Permission was granted to transfer the lease of section 8, block 26, from C. G. Moore and J. T. Evans to Henry Marshall, provided all rates were paid. It was resolved on the recommendation of the Committee appointed for tlio purpose that Mr. Frew's claim for compensation be acceded to. Mr. G. Matthews wrote claiming Lo 10s for loss of time in connection with his contract on the. waterworks.—Referred to the Engineer for report. The matter of extending the gas supply to the north town boundary was referred to the Gas Committee. Mr. Dray applied for leave to fence portion of road in Eden-street, but the Council refused, r.3 they had not the power to grant such permission. A voluminous report, prepared by Messrs. Roberts, Smith, and Otterson, re the Waterworks was read, and we regret that its length precludes the possibility of our publishing it. Accounts amounting to L 778 19s 7d were passed for payment, and. the Council adjourned.
