THE ENTIRE ROUSE PARADE.
This annual event took place at 1 "'clock to-day, under the auspices of the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association, at its grounds. There were about 500 spectators present. Everything contributed to make the show interesting to the farming fraternity, of whom there were a large number on the ground. The day was tine, and the number of horses shown was somewhat larger than that of last year, whilst interest was added to the show from the fact that a quantity of new blood made its (.hind in Oamaru on the grounds of the Association to-day. The owners of some of the horses were most eloquent in their comments upon the points of their animals, and, although in some instances we felt compelled to dissent, in the main, the horses were something of which owners might reasonably feel proud. We consider that it is only fair that wo should open the list with I>A.\"KliK. As was the case last year, he was the admired of all. For neck and back he is unsurpassable, he has also an excellent hind leg and plenty of hair, which will no doubt meet with the approval of our Scotch friends. His color is dark dappled brown, and he has a good physiognomy for a draught horse. We will take Bbxjtrew Jock next. What strikes the practisedeye when viewing this stallion are his handsome neck and " ends."' But, if we were inclit ad to be hypercritical, we might adjudge l.nn to be slightly long in the back. For bone and hair, however, he is not to be beaten, and should, judging from appearances, breed well.
Southland Champion is a very presentable horse, and Ave are glad to again welcome him into this district, for he has some excellent points—admirable quarters, bone, and hair. A crowd of spectators very naturally gathered around him, to take stock of the new comer. Our opinion is that Southland is to be complimented for having produced such an animal. We should not omit to mention the tackling which appeared on this horse, for it was the handsomest we have ever seen. Glexlyon is a grand bright bay three-year-old. We have never seen a horse uf his age promise so well. He also has excellent bone and hair, as well as other numerous good points. If he comes out as well as a four-3'ear-old as he does now, he will be a credit to his progenitors, profitable to his owners, and valuable to the district. Heather Jock is a well-known prizetaker. In him we notice an old friend. Ho is Inuking as well as ever, and can boast of some of the best stock cither here or elsewhere. Prince Victor is a strong horse, with a good neck and short back, but is rather fine in the bone. We, of course, are not capable of giving an authoritative and particular opinion as to his merits on so short an acquaintance. But ho comes to us with good testimonials, and really appears to be a well-bred horse. Prince Albert is a sound horse, with excellent leys. Sin JajlEs is a fresh importation. Not wishing to speak disrespectfully of a new acquaintance, we shall s-iy noiiwre of him than thai he is fat and of a handsome color. Dainty Davie is a good style of horse, with excellent fore arm and leg, and plenty of hair. His action is admirable, and there is no doubt that he will become a favorite- amongst the farmers. Sin Colin Casitrell is a good-legged horse, and, to all appearance, wi'h, get very good stock, although, to our numl, he is a little light in the barrel. Youno Prince Charlie is an excellent stainn of horse, with rare good bone and hair, and although somewhat small, will no doubt prove himself valuable. Lord Clyde can boast of good legs. Prince Royal is a very useful horse, with very good bone and hair. Y(h:nc. Ja'-k's the Lah., a 4-yeav-old imported horse from Victoria, is rather low in condition, and would no doubt be a very useful horse in some dis'riois. Wo now come to the thorough-breds : Pertobe is a very valuable stud horse, as is generally well known in the district. Ringleader, is c, well-bred, line upstanding dark brown horse, showing plenty of blood. BcbOUiN is a favorite in the district, and is compact, but somewhat small. Isimkoi.) is likely to prove a useful horse for breeding hacks or coachers. Goldfinder is a useful horse, and would prove himself valuable for breeding spring-cart or buggy horses.
