(fkom our own correspondents. ) DUNEDIN. September 5. Mr. Macasscy has determined not to contest the Lakes seat. 31 r. M-Indoe declines to retire from C'avershani. Hawkins has been further remanded. Mr. Driver's return is considered certain, but Mr. Barr's friends are working hard, and will give him a respectable place on the poll. The excitement over the Pert election is intense, every available vote being mustered. No contest like it has ever been known here. Half-a-dozen votes are expected to decide. Voters have been brought from Tiinaru, Christchurch, and Invercargill. The following is the result of the Roslyn election :—Driver, 553 ; Barr, 344. The Port returns are as follows :—Macandrew, 308 ; Green, 210. Blueskin cannot effect the result.
