The shareholders have confirmed the proposed amalgamation of the banks. August 20. The Commercial Bank robbers have made full confessions. The proposed new tariff has been severely criticised ill the Legislative Assembly. Sydney, August 19. Affairs at Lambton are quiet. Several miners' meetings have been hold. A lockout of the Lambton men is probable. The Newcastle disturbances have been much exaggerated. There u no real necessity, as was stated, for the despatch of the military. A man named Turley attempted to cut the throat of his sweetheart. Grey, one of the Lancefield robbers, states that he had no revolver, only a meerschaum pipe case. Lowe, the other robber, was wanted for a ferocious assault on an Italian the day previous. The Bank officer was decoyed into the bush on the pretence that they had discovered a reef. They struck him a murderous blow on the head with a pick, and then went and ransacked the house.
