ELECTION GOSSIP.
Wellington, August 20. The Liberal Association last night took a ballot for the candidates to be nominated for the city, with the following result:— Mr. Levin, 62 ; Mr. Anderson, 26 ; Mr. Greenfield, 22 ; plump for Hutchison, 17. Mr. Jackson, a candidate for the Hutt, addressed the electors of the Lower Hutt last night, and announeed himself an anti-Greyite. A vote of confidence was passed. Wanganui, August 20. The largest meeting ever held in Wanganui assembled last night to hear Mr. Ballance's speech, which lasted for two hours. He carried the audience with him entirely. A vote of confidence was carried by 500 to three. Dunedin. August 19. Mr. Robert Gillies is mentioned as a probable candidate for Dunedin. Mr. F. 11. Chapman, solicitor, has declined to stand for Waikaia. Mr. W. A. Mosley is announced for Bruce. Christchurch, August 19. The Catholic voters of Kaiapoi, 300 strong, have decided against Mr. Bo won, and will support any candidate against him.
