ORIGINAL CORRESPONDECE.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU MAIL. Sir, —I have been so pestered lately by persons attributing to my pen all kinds of letters which appear in the local papers, that I have resolved to follow Dean Swift, and to save people the trouble of impertinent questions, I beg to inform them, through you? columns that in future all letters having any point in them may be considered mine, whatever political side they may lean to.—l am, &c., J. O'Meagher, TO THE EDITOR OF THE OAMARU MAIL. Sib, —In view of the coming election contest, I am rather surprised that so little interest is being taken in the matter here, Liberals and Conservatives alike seem a little apathetic. I suppose our late members intand to stand again, and I think they deserve our support for their past actions.. But there is one thing they had a hand in which is against the views of their friends, and that is driving the Bible out of our public schools. Now, sir, that was done without consulting the electors, and will certainly be made a test question at the coming election. There are other objectionable clauses in the Education Ordinance, such as the appointment oi teachers. This should rest with the Committee, and the candidates will have to give a distinct pledge upon it. I hope our late "members will consult the views of the majority of their supporters, and avoid a split in the Liberal vote.-I am, &c., A Voter,
