[FROM OT7K OWN CORRESPONDENT.] London, August 4. Parliament has thanked the Afghan armies. Sydney, August 6. The Torres mail steamer has arrived at Cooktown with a cargo of rice and tea for Sydney and Melbourne, and 2SO packages of tea for New Zealand. Hanlon's challenge is certain to be accepted. Lord Loftus' levee was the greatest that has ever been held here. Mr. O'Shannassy's vote of no confidence against the Berry Goverment is unlikely to be proceeded with, as the Opposition is weak. Mr. Hay's Constitutional Reform motion in the Adelaide Parliament provides that the Governor shall nominate one-third of the present number of members of the Upper House. In the event of the rejection of the Assembly's measures, these nominees are to vacate their seats when the first batch of members retire.
