There was a very large attendance, and the bidding was fairly spirited until L2 Gs. with the whole of the stock included was reached, when it stopped, and although Mr. Maude dv. elt idowingly for some time upon the excellence of the investment, not anoher bid could be obtained. The vendors then made their bid of L'2 10s. per acre, and the estate was withdrawn.
T. W. Parker, Esq., E.M., held a sitting of the Kevision Court to-day, for the purpose of hearing a number of appeals against the assessment in the County of aitaki under the Land Tax Act.
The Committee of the "W'aitaki Jockey Club met at the Entire Hotel last evening. There was only a small attendance, and Mr. W. Sutherland occupied the chair. ihe Secretary (Mr. W. Gardiner), reported that all the outstanding debts had been paid, with tiie exception of one trifling amount, which would be paid immediately. The drawing «p of a programme for the next annual meeting, to be held at Duntroon on the 2nd and 3rd of October, was then proceeded with, and with one or two small alterations r.itd the substitution of a Shepherds' Race on ihe second day, instead of the Duntroon Plate, corresponds with the programme of lasi ye ar. At the Kc id'-nt Maijietrate's Court, today, James Turner, charged with neglecting to support two of his children ill the Industrial School, was remanded to Dunedin. The meeting held at Pirie's Hotel, Papakaio, the other evening, for the purpose of taking the necessary preliminary steps in connection with the annual ploughing match, wa3 numerously attended, and great enthusiasm was shown. Mr. D. Shaw occupied the chair, and after some preliminary business nesa had been gone through, a statement was presented showing a balance to the good of some LIT. A Committee was then elected, and after some discussion it was determined to alter the name of the match to the North Otago Champion Ploughing Match. A meeting of the Committee wa3 fixed for Monday, 11th inst., at seven o'clock M iny will be pleased to learn that tlie temporary coffee room will be shortly opened. Premises have been secured in a central situation, and a very largo amount of support lias, despite the badne.-s of the times, been accorded to the movement. In addition to many other handsome do.ia l ions from others, a gentleman has undertaken to pay the first quarter's rent of the building.

™ read from the Clerk to the Waitaki County Council, tendering a cheque for Ranger's salary. Mr. George Sumpter, as Secretary to the Waitaki High School Board, _ ■wrote, stating that it -had been resolved , that the Secretary be requested to cause the j necessary documents to' be prepared for ] transfer of road-line to Kakanui Board, the s said Board to pay all charges. It was 1 resolved that the necessary steps be taken to'complete title to Bush Reserve Road. Mr. Walter Booth wrote drawing the attention of the Board to the state of * the road between the stone quarry and the ] Totara siding, and sent in a claim for L 5 - expended by the Stone Crmpany for repairs, ' It was resolved not to pay the money. The ] Clerk to the Waiareka Road Board wrote ( with reference to the closing of road line i between the two districts. In reply, the Clerk was instructed to state that this Board has no objection to the road bring temporarily closed. Mr. Thomas Brydone wrote stating that the N.Z, and A,L. Company are willing to grant the closed road between • seotions 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27, block . IX., Oamaru, being re-opened, provided it is . continued to the main district road. The i company would not oppose the [closing of 1 the track which runs through sees. 11, 10, 9, 1 S, 7, 12, 13, 14, 15, 2, and 1, block IX. The Company would also be in favor of a short piece of road being obtained through section 02, block X., to join the road through the swamp with the main road. After considerable discussion, it was resolved that the members for the Incholme Subdivision and Mr. Hedley wait on Mr. Stephenson, re acquiring land for road line between sections S and 9, block IX., Oamaru District, and report at nest meeting of the Board. It was decided to hold the annual meeting at two o'clock on Wednesday, the 20tli August. The Engineer's report was read and received, and tenders ordered to be called for the formation and draining of White Rocks road, and also for the formation of portion of road between sections G3, 49, block 1., Kauroo. The following tenders for works were accepted :—Contract 57, John M'Combe, LS4 Is; contract 58, P. Corcoran, L 514 9s sd. Accounts to the amount of L 256 10s 3d w ere passed for payment. Mr. Hedley recommended that plans and specifications be prepared for formation of road on section 16, block IX., Oamaru district. A vote of thanks was accorded to the chair, and the Board rose.
