HARBOR BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held to-day, when there were present—Mr. G. Sumpter (Chaiman), the Hon. H. J, Miller, Messrs. Borrie, Hassell, and Duncan. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. The Standing Committee reported that haying considered the Harbor Master's account of the damage done to the Faanklyn Belle, they had decided to reply to the Harbor Master that the Board could not take any responsibility in the matter of the accident to the Franklvn Belle.

The Secretary had been asked to prepare working drawings and specifications for a suite of offices and store at the Breakwater, for submission to the Board. The Conamitteo recommended the Board to consider tlie desirability of arranging for obtaining a dredge. The Secretary had been requested to make inquiries as to the best kind of machinery.for a flashing white light for the lighthouse, and report to the Committee. The Secretary had been instructed to ask the Public Works Minister to grant an interview to the Committee fin the subject of the railway curves at the Macandrew and Normanby Wharves. The Committee also reported that a letter had been received from Mr. Burnett, stating that the cost of altering tho decline to the first bridge on the Breakwater line would amount to about L3OO. The report was adopted. The Chairman was empowered to grant to Captain Wing, of the Shag, a certificate of exemption from pilotage. The Chairman drew attention to the fact that the plant for the new curve across the lagoon, to form a junction with the main line, was so arranged that the points would be in the middle of Thamesstreet. He certainly thought that the Board should enter some protest against the proposal, which was calculated to damage the gtreet. After examining the plan submitted by the department, it was resolved that the Secretary should write to the Town Clerk on the matter, and that the Committee should draw the attention of the Minister for Public Works to the subject on the occasion of their proposed interview with him.

The Chairman was requested, in accordance with the Standing Orders of the Legislative Council, to notify by advertisement the intention of the Board to havo a Bill introduced next session for the purpose of removing the limitation of the Board's borrowing powers as fixed by the Bill passed last session. Accounts to the amount of L 72 19s having been passed for payment, and the Board rose.
