May 17. _ The season's yield of wheat for Victoria amounted to 5,750,400- bushels, showing a decrease, as compared with 1878, of 1,300,792 bushels, although there has been a substantial increase in the acreage. I May 19. Weiberg has been captured near the Tarwen river. He surrendered after three shots had been fired at him. (SPECIAL TO PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, May 17. A co? ih was bailed up near Narribi. Obituary—Mr. Angus, of Melbourne. Melbourne, May 16. The official statistics show the yield of last harvest to be 5,715,000 bushels of wheat. This is a decrease of 1,302,000 bushels compared with the previous year. The average yield was 8 "7 bushels, compared with 12 "4 bushels for last year. The yield of oats is 307,000 bushels, showing an increase on last season. The
additional acreage under wheat was 94,000 acres. New Zealand oats are plentiful, at 3s 6d to 3s 9d. Four thousand bushels were sold on Friday in two lines. The largest shareholders in the Provincial Bank contemplate establishing a new company, to take over' the assets and liabilities, and to recommence business after the liquidation - . •The Jessie Headman, from the Bluff, has arrived. Later. It is feared that Victoria will require to import a million and a half bushels of wheat for consumption.
