$ \FIIOM on: OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WANGANUI. May G. A boiler explosion occurred at Duncan and Yonks' Mill, Taupo Quay, at 1.30 this afternoon. It was felt over half the town, and many thought it was an earthquake. One man was killed, one dangerously injured, and a number more or less injured. Half of the boiler was thrown fifty yards up towards the railway station. CHRISTCHURCH. May 6. ' A fire occurred last night at the Belfast meat preserving works, which consumed the main building in which the principal operations are carried on. The building, including stock and plant, was insured in the New Zealand Company for LBGGG.
