THE KAUTANGATA RELIEF FUND.
A meeting of the local Committee was held late yesterday afternoon, when there were present—His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), the Rev. A. Gifford, and Mr. W. J. Smith (Hon. Secretary). The Secretary reported that the total subscriptions received to date amounted to L47S 18s 9d. The Livingstone, Waiaroka, and Teaneraki lists had yet to be received, and as the former of these was expected to yield over L2O, it was anticipated that there would be LSOO to hand over. The following resolutions were passed : That the Secretary pay over the amount the North Otago Benevolent Society, by cheque : and that in forwai cling the said chermc lie write to the Society stating that the'money so paid over is handed to the Society on the understanding that it (the Society) will forward to the Central Committee, in Dunedin, an equal amount, or such larger sum as it may _ vote for the same object ; and that it he stated bv the So -iety in forwarding payment to Dunedin that the amount forwarded is the amount of special subscription for Kaitangata Relief Fund collected in Oamaru and surrounding district, forwarded per "North Otasro Benevolent Society; and, further, that it be intimated to the Dunedm Committee that application will be made to the Government for subsidy thereon in favor of the North Otago Benevolent Society, the said Society having been prevented, it is understood, from making the annual house-to-house canvass in aid of the local charity by reason of this special effort. 'That the Society be requested to forwan. to the Central Committee, together with the amount remitted, the recommendation contained in the Rev. Mr. Gifford's resolution. That the Secretary further request that the North Otago Benevolent Society will forthwith acknowledge the subscriptions by advertisement in full detail. That the Secretary advise the Society that there are yet some iists to come in, and that on these being returned a supplementary amount will be sent to the Society to be similarly dealt with. That the Secretary advertise that the lists will finally close in Oamaru on Friday, 4th April, at noon ; and that he write to those persons holding lists to return them with amounts collected, or in blank, by Thursday, April 3rd. The Committee then adjourned until Friday next, at 4 p.m. •
