THE WATERWORKS.

At the meeting of the Municipal Council last evening, the following report upon the Waterworks was read : Oamaru, 13th March. To his Worship the Mayor and Councillors— Gentlemen.—l have the honor to report that the various contracts in oonneetion with the Waterworks are progressing in a satisfactory manner, and I have no hesitation in saying that the whole of the race cutting and tunnelling will be finished by the end of July first. I jjurpose recommencing the earth work of the reservoir immediately so as to have the work finished, or nearly so, simultaneously with the race cutting. I have been advised that some 750 tons of pipes have been passed 011 our account in Glasgow, and will probably arrive here in April, We have some 40,000 ft of timber now on [ hand, and a large quantity of fencing material is 011 the ground being prepared for erecting. All the timber for road bridges on the Awamoko section is to hand, and as soon as it is put in position the water will be run down permanently as far as the Waikoura. During the last two months the average flow of water in the race to Black Pointgates has been 2GOO to 2800 cubic feet a minute. There are altogether 170 men employed 011 the works, of which 25 are artisans.—lam, &c,, D. A. M'Leod, Engineer.
