THE ENGLISH ELEVEN V. THE AUSTRALIAN ELEVEN.
«. (By Telegraph, via the Bluff.) (pee press association.) Melbourne, January 7. The cricket match between the Gentlemen of England and the Australian Eleven ended early on the 4th in a victory for the latter, with 10 wickets to spare. The Australians, in their second innings, had only 18 runs to make to win. The Australians completed their first innings for 256 ; in their second innings, the visitors lost six wickets for 103 runs. The only player who made a stand on Friday was Lord Harris, who scored 36 before he was caught off Spofforth, just before the stumps were drawn for the day. S. S. Schultz and Emmett, on Saturday, made a good stand, or the Englishmen would have bqen defeated in one innings. The following are the full scores : —■ Gentlemen of England.
