After two unyiccpssful attempts, a good start was effected. The Slander Colt jumped away with" the Tead, Isaac being second, Pinfire third, and Xahtippe last. Ulltt.l .-coining into the straight to the dip, where Pinfil'C went forward with a tremendous rush, beating Mr. Walters' colt cleverly on the post, Isaac Walton boing a good third. Auckland ctrp—a handicap of 300 sov with a sweepstakes of 15 sovs each added ; 2J miles. Ariel 1 Gillie Galium 2 The Don 3 Seven started. Betting—6 to 1 agst Ariel: 3to 1 Punga, Elsa, and Gillie Galium ; 4to I Lady Pmzabeth ; 5 to 1 The Don. The lot were sent away to a splendid start, and passing the stand the first time ' they all ran in a heap. Punga was the first to show in the front, followed by ' Lady Elizabeth, with Ariel third. In this order they passed the stand the \ second time. Outside the cutting Ariel J wrested the lead from Punga, and Lady j Elizebeth, who was running second, then | bolted, losing her chance. Howe brought j Gillie Calum forward in splendid style, but Matthews rattled along on Ariel, and ] keeping the lead, passed the winning post two lengths in advance of Gillie Galium, who was a good length ahead.
