The lot were sent away to a splendid start, and passing the stand the first time ' they all ran in a heap. Punga was the first to show in the front, followed by ' Lady Elizabeth, with Ariel third. In this order they passed the stand the \ second time. Outside the cutting Ariel J wrested the lead from Punga, and Lady j Elizebeth, who was running second, then | bolted, losing her chance. Howe brought j Gillie Calum forward in splendid style, but Matthews rattled along on Ariel, and ] keeping the lead, passed the winning post two lengths in advance of Gillie Galium, who was a good length ahead.
