(from our own correspondent.) WELLINGTON. December 21. The Government have replied to Mr Barton to the effect that his letter is an insult to the Judges, Cabinet, and Law Officers of the Crown, the " language it contains being at variance with well understood courtesies." The Government concludes by intimating that correspondence must now close. Another of the Hcrmione's immigrants is dying, and two more are not expected to recover. There are no fresh cases. The Health Officer has just returned from the quarantine station. The ship will probably be admitted to pratique in a week. CHRISTCHURCH. December 21. F. 11. Valpy, formerly of the Civil Service, was brought before the Court this morning, charged with embezzling L 165, funds of the Railway Employes Benefit Society. He was remanded till Tuesday. A woman, whose name is unknown, was found last night paralysed from cuts and bruises. She lies in the Hospital in a precarious state.
