LATEST HOME AND FOREIGN NEWS. (BTKCIAL TO THE PRESS AGENCY.) London, December 5. General Roberts had a grand victory at Periwar, capturing all the guns, with enormous loss to the enemy. The British loss was 100.
Parliament opened to-day by Commission. The speech regrets the necessity for summoning Parliament early. The Ameer's hostility obliged the Government to send an ultimatum, which was disregarded. They then directed an expedition to cross the frontier. The estimates are preparing, and general measures will be submitted. The Berlin Treaty is being executed. Among other matters mentioned in the speech at the opening of Parliament suitable redress will be demanded from the Ameer on the conclusion of hostilities.
December 5 (Evening)
In the House of Commons the Under-Sec-retary for India gave notice of a resolution that the expense of the war should be charged against the Indian exchequer. December 6. The Address in Reply has been adopted by both Houses. Bombay, December 6.
Intelligence has been received of the capture of the Periwar Pass by General Roberts' force after a second severe engagement. All the guns and ammunition of the enemy fell into the bauds of the British, with a heavy loss to the Afghans. The victory was complete. The British loss in killed and wounded was four officers and eighty men. Berlin, December 5.
The Emperor was enthusiastically received on his return to the capital to resume the Government.
