The Afghan army attacked the British troops at the Periwar Pass, and a fierce battle ensued ; but ultimately the British captured Periwar, and totally defeated the Afghans. The Queen's speech expresses the belief that the Berlin Treaty will secure the peace of Europe. It contains no financial proposals. December o, 5.45 p.m.
The Liberals will not move an amendment to the address in reply to the speech from the Throne, but Mr. Gladstone will move a vote of censure on the Ministry. Important changes h»ve taken place in the Turkish Ministry, which is favorable to reforms.
Sydney, December 6. A prize fight for LSOO has been arranged between Abe Hieken and Foley. Wilson backs the former, and Mace the latter. Two hundred pounds have been deposited.
