strength on 31st Oct., 1878, viz., Auckland, L9l; Waiuku, L 35 ; Waikato, LIG 10s ; Taranaki, Lll; Wanganui, L 25 18s ; Rangiteiki, L9lßs; Wellington, L 41175• Greytown, L 5 4s; Napier, LIS; Poverty Bay, L1310s; Bay of Plenty, L1410s; Thames, LSI 12s; Nelson, Ll3ss; Marlborough, L4l 10s ; Canterbur}', L 53 Is ; Oamaru, L3O 15s ; Dunedin, L 149 Is ; Tnvercargill, L 42 Gs ; Fakes, L2l 18s ; Westland, LlB 10s : A. C. Reserve, Lls 6s ; total, LBOO. 2. whole sum voted having been aet apart for prizes, no claims for marking, &c., can be entertained, each district must arrange for markers at its own expense. 3. A Committee, composed of the officer commanding and not less than two senior Volunteer officers in each district, will divide the amounts set apart for their respective districts into such prizes as they may determine, to be competed for at such ranges, &c., as they may appoint. 4. The Commissioner of the A. C. will issue rules for the prizes apportioned to that force. ' The firing for these prizes must be in accordance with the general rules published this year. 5. The competition to take place at such times as may be directed by the officer commanding the district, not being later than the 31st of March, 1579. G. As soon as possible after the firing has been concluded returns showing the conditions under which the [ competition took place, the names of the prize winners, and the several amounts of the prizes, together with the full scores of all competitors, must be sent to the Acting Under-Secretary for Defence.
