WESTPORT. j November 10. | The Reefton coach met with another exj ccedingly narrow escape yesterday at the ' Nine-mile Creek, where the mountain torrent ! washed the horses oil' their legs, swamped the ! coach, and endangered the passengers' lives. ! All j papers connected with their affairs were de- | stroyed. "Win. Lloyd and Co.'s Secretary locked up tlrs building at 10.30, and asserts that all was then safe. No one lives in the building, nor had it any fireplace. The building was uninsured. The Fire Erigade ami citizens saved the adjacent buildings. The owner of a fruit store suffered some loss through the hurried removal of his effects. ■! An inquiry will be held.
