THE PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY'S CONCERT.
The Oamaru Philharmonic Society has very wisely arranged to give c miscellaneous concert this evening, of course at the Volunteer Hall. Unlike concerts of the Society, to-night's will consist entirely of secular miscellaneous music—vocal and instrumental, and for this reason, and because a concert forms an admirable conclusion to a day's amusement, there can be no doubt that a large audience will assemble this evening. The programme is short, but in the estimation of the majority that is an advantage : and we are inclined to think that on a day of festivity, when everybody feels tired, and needs a fillip more than a substantial musical feast, a short concert is the best. On the programme there appear the names of the old favorites, with a sin-inkling of those of new friends, and whilst the first will be listened to attentively because they have many times previously contributed to the delight of the public, the second will be welcomed ?.'■> additions to the musical talent of the Society, and we have every reason to believc\ that they will be additions useful to\ the Society and agreeable to its supporters. For those who are in love with good, spirited choruses we recommend to them Sir H. Bishop's "Now Tramp o'er Moss and Fell" and "Spirits Advance," and for the admirers of good old songs there is ample food for pleasure in the progiamme.
