WAITAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.

This monthly mooting of the Council whs hold to-day at the County Chambers. There were present—Messrs. Duncan (in tlu! chair), Mnrcott, Morton, Toiler Johnston, and W. Sutherland. ' ~ .Mr. Oliver (Engineer) and Mr. Bantu (Inspector) were in attendance. The minutes of the last meeting wore read and continued, and the outward Correspondence was rend and approved. Mrs. Mary Fricker's application for a slaughtering license at Awamoko wa» granted. A renewal was granted of Mr. Norman Lane's slaughtering license. Mr. James Robertson's application for a slaughtering license at Karow wit I granted. The Solicitor (Mr. O'Meaglier) gave the opinion that persons leaving gorse or debris in the ditches on County roads are liable to be prosecuted under the Public Works Act, 1870.—The Inspector was empowered to draw the attention of offenders to the matter, and report cases to the Council. Tin; Chairman of the Waiareka R'und Board wrote asking the assistance «>f thfi Council in obtaining the formation of a railway siding on the Waiareka Branch Railway at Whitstone. A letter to tho Board from the Public Works department, declining to accede to the request, wan I also read. Mr. Todd said that a siding was greatly required, and had been promised by tho Provincial Government on tho condition that, tho necessary approach was obtained. Tiie Board had succeeded in getting tlio approach, but the Government now declined to make the siding. He niovnd that the Council should urge upon the Commissioner of Railways and the Minister for Public Works to reconsider the matter, and that the Chairman (tho Hon. R. Campbell) should bo requested to use his influence to get the matter rcTiie Clerk of the Otepopo Road Board considered. The. motion was seconded by Mr. Murcott and carried. wrote stating that tho Board was not in a position to contribute any portion of tho cost of constructing a bridge over tho Allday Creek, but would not olt'er any obstruction to the Council performing the work. Mr. Morton proposed that the Enginoor should prepare plans and specifications and call for tenders for the work ; the bridge to be afterwards handed over to the Board for maintenance. Mr. Mnrcott seconded the motim, which was carried.

A letter was read from Messrs. Chapman and Strode, on behalf of Mr. P. Aitchison, calling the attention of th« Council to the statu of the river rumiii'tf through his property, and staling thut unless the Council had a map of the drainage of the County prepared in accordance with the Act, and took stops to prevent damage to Mr. Aitchiuon's pf perty, they would move for a mandaiuui compelling the Council to do bo.
