MUNIC IPAL CONFERENCE.

WeUjlnoton, August 7. In the Municipal Conference a letter was received from the Government declining to pay the subsidies voted out of the Consolidated Fund in full from the Ist January, 1878. The matter was discussed as to whether a joint legal action should be taken with the Counties, but as there was only a thin attendance, further consideration of the question was postponed. Several technical altei-ations were suggested in the Rating Act. An amendment was carried that the gold duty should be paid into a separate account, and that the Government should divide these funds bet, ween the boroughs and counties in which they accrue. The suggestions made by last year's Conference relative to the exemption of Corporation instruments from stamp duty, municipal reserves and leases, licenses, and. election of councillors were confirmed.
