SELLING A WIFE.
That a wifo should be bought and sold in this Colony in the present day, when education refinement is supposed to be so widely diffused (says the Dunedin Star) is almost incredible. Yet out Wellington correspondent telegraphs to-day that such an occurrence did actually take place there yesterday morning. A man named Igoe was charged with assaulting a woman with whom he formerly cohabited, but who .swore that she had since married a man named Roberts. This woman has now declared a predilection for her old love, upon which Roberts, apparently feeling not altogether satislied with the bargain" lie had made, declared that he was quite willing to resign the prize upon being paid (he expenses he had incurred in connection wiili the marriage, iVrc, which lie estimated at L2 10s. This offer was at once accepted by Igoe, the money was paid, and tho following document drawn up and signed : WKI.LtNCTON, August 1, IS7S. I hereby release and sell out to Jack Igoe, her original lover, and Colonial husband, all claim to my wife, Sarah Ann Koberts, pianist at .Jones' Wellington sal on, for the sum of £2 10s. (Signed) Tnos. John Huberts. Witnesses—James Morrissoy, C. Winn.
