A UCKLAND. July 10. The half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand Insurance Company was held today. Further particulars regarding the murder at Oxford, show that, the deceased woman had excited her husband's jealousy by Wing too friendly with a man named Barrett, who lodged with them. Ho.'t's complaints of the infidelity of his uife were Very notorious in the Oxford district. Barrett left the house early on the morning of the murder, but whether auy tjiiarrel occurred prior to it, no one knows. Hoti' is about GO years of age, and has htt'erly been much given to drink. An action for libel is about to lie brought .•■.gainst the Havre's Ray Herald by Mr. Hugh M'Lean, about whom a letter appealed in the Herald some months ago, referring in a sarcastic manner to him. Mr. M'Lean admits that there was no malice on the j.art of tin; Herald, but the letter has been destroyed, and the writer is unknown. ♦ INVERCARGILL. July 10. To-day is observed as a public holiday, I hi tho occasion of the opening of the j Winton-Kingston line. The town is nearly deserted. The nomination of candidates for the Invercargill election took place to-day. Messrs. J. YV. Bain and H. Feld.wick were the only candidates proposed. The show of hands was in favor of the former. * 1— TIMARU. July 11. Mrs. Mead was found dead by her litfsband, who missed her from bed. She was on the lluor at the side of the bed on her knees. The Orangemen of Timaru will celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne to-morrow evening by a banquet and ball on a grand scale.
