A UCKLAND. July 10. The half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand Insurance Company was held today. Further particulars regarding the murder at Oxford, show that, the deceased woman had excited her husband's jealousy by Wing too friendly with a man named Barrett, who lodged with them. An action for libel is about to lie brought .•■.gainst the Havre's Ray Herald by Mr. Hugh M'Lean, about whom a letter appealed in the Herald some months ago, referring in a sarcastic manner to him. Mr. M'Lean admits that there was no malice on the j.art of tin; Herald, but the letter has been destroyed, and the writer is unknown. ♦ INVERCARGILL. July 10. To-day is observed as a public holiday, I hi tho occasion of the opening of the j Winton-Kingston line. The town is nearly deserted.
