OAMARU SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

A meeting of this Committee was held last evening at the Secretary's office, when there were present :—Messrs. Steward (Chairman). Fleming, Headland, Hi.--.lop, Hardy (Secretary). Mr. Peattie, J lector of the High School, was also present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was read and approved. The Chairman stated at some length the result of an interview he had had while in Dunedin with the Education Board upon several matters. Tiie following letter was"then read : Education Office, Dunedin, June 13, IS7B. Sir, —Referring to a verbal oiler made bv you to the Education Board at its meeting held on the 29th wit, to the effect that the Oamaru Schools Committee would execute the necessary repairs to the rectory on the Board guaranteeing the cost out of next year's vote for school buildings, I am requested to state that the Board has agreed to accept the offer made by you. Mr. Somervillo has been instructed to prepare the necessary plans, and see to the proper carrying out of the works. The tender must be submitted for the approval of the Board. I am directed to state that the i> mt'U '..■.! be prepared to pay two-thirds m' nio cost of fitting up the south school on production of the account showing the actual eo .t of the works. This amount would have been paid when the Committee first made tho claim had the Board been informed that the expenditure was authorised, and incurred on account of fitting up the so :t!t school.
