TEANERAKI ITEMS.

Those who have not been to Teanoraki. for a few months would bo snrprisod to see the signs of progress in that litt.lo township. A large, new store is being built in Marlborough-stroot, at the Bid® of Mr. Rainforth's entrance gate. This, we believe, is to bo conducted by Mr. Beckingsa.le, and it is to be hoped that now the wants of the district are increasing so much, he will got a fair share of the business ; whilst that of tho present and energetic storekeeper will continue to increase. A commodious dwelling-houso is also being erected in Wellington-street, and will soon be ready for occupation. A contingent of volunteers connected with the Oainaru Rifles has also been raised in the Waiareka Valley, which drill twice a week at Teaneraki. Both men and instructor are enthusiastic, and promise soon to become thoroughly efficient volunteers. Good Templary also flourishes there. The Livingstone Lodge, consisting, we believe, of over (50 members, meets once a week, and we must say that, whether owing to their influence or not, Teaneraki contrasts very favorably in point of quietness and respectability with many other small townships. We understand that, a blacksmith's shop is about to be opened by an efficient workman quite close to tho southern extremity of tho township, and that a shoomaker and cobbler also contemplates taking up quarters there. It is also on dit that a gentleman woll acquainted from long experience with tho wants of the districts is about to start a three-weekly or fortnightly sale in tho township. We havo no doubt that such a sale would meet tho wants of a large class in the district, and will prove an undoubted success.

Teaneraki was, we believe, surveyed only about eighteen months ago, and, should it.go on advancing at the Bamo rate as hitherto, may bo expected to bo n. township of considerable importance in a> few years time.
