The rioters refusing to disperse were fired on by the military. London, May 22. The Attorney-General, in reply to a question, said the Government had received no information confirming the report of vessels designed for privateers being bought in America by Rtissian agents. On the resumption of the debate on Lord Hartington's motion the speeches were desultory, and the House adjourned. Nothing authentic is known here regarding Count Schouvaloff's mission to St. Petersburgli. It is still hoped that the Conference will meet. May 23. Count Schouvaloff is in London, and will interview Lord Salisbury to-morrow. «> VERY LATEST NEWS. (special to the tress agency.) London, May 24. Hopes for the maintenance of peace are greater. A portion of the Sublime Porte has been burnt. It is supposed to have been accidental. The Government majority in the House of Commons exceeds 121. (REUTER'S SPECIAL —PER PRESS AGENCY.) Athens, May 22. Severe, but indecisive, fighting has taken place at Crete. Constantinople, May 23. A great fire hero has destroyed the palaces of the Minister of Justice and the Supreme Council of State. The Russians are advancing with a neutral zone. London, May 23. Supplementary estimates were introduced to-day for the Indian contingent army, and for the increase to the navy on the New Zealand station. On the resumption of the debate the policy of the Eastern question was untouched, and Lord Hartington's motion was negatived. May 24. The s'i->,test secresy is maintained re Schouvaloff's mission, pending the reply of the British Government. The prevalent opinion is that it is of a pacific character and that there will be an early meeting of congress.
