NEWS FROM NEW CALEDONIA.
Auckland, April 5. The Lsetitia, from New Caledonia, reports that the Pacific Slope, from NewZealand, had put in in consequence of her cargo of timber shifting in a gale. Five hundred French Communists have arrived per Higginson, to work in the copper mines by contract for twenty years, at 10 cents per head a day. Noumea has suffered unprecedented heat ; sunstrokes are numerous. Great distress is felt through the failure of the banks. The Government inquiry is proceeding. A reform in the bankruptcy law is advocated. Six New Hebrides workmen attempted to escnpe ;. one was killed, and another wounded. Rich gold has been discovered by one Bins. Russell, charged with three embezzlements, is remanded.
