Forty-four thousand salmon ova, and fifteen hundred trout ova arrived to-day per Alhambra. being part of the consignment per Chimborazo to Melbourne. They have been taken to Wallacetown ponds, but the result, of the inspection has not been asc-rtained. Sir S. Wilson made an examination of them, and in his letter of advice to Mr. Howard he says that, of the ova in two of the boxes packed by Buckland only 370 were looking likely to hatch out. The boxes packed by 3 Mr. 'Youle looked splendid, the ova being large and healthy. Later.
Although tin-! salmon ova packed by Mr. Yeule looked clear and healthy, yet upon being iximined with a glass, they seemed imperfectly impregnated. They are thought to have been prematurely taken from the fish. The trout ova, which ar-' in good condition, were packed by Mr. BueUland, from Capel's establishment, Footseray. Few, if any. of the salmon ova are good. Tile 30,000 presented to the Victorian Government, part of the same consignment, turned out better.
