ALEXAXDRA. March 14. It is not probable that Tawhian will meet Sir Geo. Grey this month. It appears there is some difficulty. At the Flikurangi meeting some cattle were killed by the Hauhaus, having been stolen from Walker and Parker's station. Mr. W Iker seized a bullock dray laden with kerosene tins containing the meat, and refused to £i v e up possession of the team, havi g lost LTiOO worth of'cattle. Te Xgakatt demands the restoration of Ills team ; and correspondence with the tf* »vernment has been going on concerning the matter, re Xgakau declares that if they are not returned he will drive all the cattle from the run. Mr. Walker remains firm. Sir George Grey is not likely to meet the Kingites till this matter is arranged. Some of the moat killed at the last meeting came from the same run.

NAPIER. March 14. A correspondent to the "Herald" gives an account of some li e->tonc caves which have been discovered near Te Atu. Tlicv arc described a* being of magnificent beauty, with srula tites hanging from ro >f and si-Jes. One cave that was entered was very extensive, and had many lateral chamb- r,s. There were columns strewed sibout, some whole and some broken, rendering progress mllieult. in one place there was a miniature lake, surrounded with pale green shrubs. In another place the exploring party came upon a niniher of petrified bones, some very large, and also three human figures—a man, wo i an, at:d child. Near the group, on the opposite side of the cave, thero were rude sketches o warfare. The countenances arc apparently not that of the pre ent race of Maoris. The discovery has been placed in the hands of the Government. A Lodge of Freemasons was consecrated at Waipukurau Inst night, ir. is called the Hertford Lodge. -Mr. F. J. Mos-% M.H.R., for Parnell, is about to make a stay at Napier for some time, in connection with Mr. Rees* native and law business. £—o AUCKLAND. March U. There has been an explosion of gas at the Government House. No serious damage was done. Two outbreaks of fire have occurred in different parts of the city, but they were extinguished by the prompt action of the brigades. The Hon. Mr. Sheehan has gone to the Thames with Mr. Mackay, to endeavour to settle the question of the reserves of the Aroha block, purchased by Mr. Broomfield. * CERISTCHURCH. March 15. ' A young girl, about 10 years old, was found drowned in the Avon iast evening/ There was bl- od upon her pocket-handkerchief, and also on her bonnet. The body has not yet been identified. Sir Geo."Grey is expected to arri /e at C o'clock this evening. So far as is known, no public demonstration will take place during his stay. AKAROA. Harch 14. Yesterday Miss Rowling, a governess, left home, ■ and, as she'did not return during the evening, it was thought, from former expressions, that she might have committed suicide. Sir George Grey and party arrived at the railwaystation, from the South, at 5 o'clock this evening, and w?'s received by the Mayor, Borough Council; and other local bodies. The Mayor presented an address. Sir George Grey made a brief reply, and was then escorted to the Grosvenor Hotel, headed by a brass hand playing appropriate airs. At C o'clock Sir Geo. Orev attended a banquet in the Town Hall. There were about eighty persons present. Several spcechers were made. Sir George Grey expressed himself as mgmy gratifled at the progress of Timtiru since he was last here. Sir George Grey is now present at a public meeting at the Mechanics' Institute.
