Malcolm Morgan, charged with being drunk and disorderly in Coquet-strect yesterday, was fined 205., with the option of going to gaol for seven clays. Elizabeth Johnston, who rejoices in the . fifinsci of Campbell and Morrison.. was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Wansbeck-atreet last evening, raid was ■ fiiiod os., with the alternative of twentyfour hours' imprisonment. i William Falconer, for being drunk on the Government railway on Saturday, was fined 10s., with the alternative of fortyeight hours' imprisonment. HORSES AT LARGE. John dime and George W. Draper were eaph fined 2s. 01. for allowing horses to be at large in Hun)ber-=treet yesterday, PERJUEV. Thomas Wright was charged with having, on the Ist instant, committed wilful and corrupt perjury while giving evidence in a civil case brought by Wright and Hardy against William Fenwick for breach of contract, then being heard in
the Resident Magistrate's Court before Mr. Parker.
Mr. o'Meagher, instructed by Mr. Balmer, appeared for the prosecution, and Mr. Hislop for the accused, who denied the charge.
Mr. O'Meagher having opened the case at some length, T. W. Parker, R.M., was called, and gave evidence as to the accused having sworn that the prosecutor, Mr. William Fenwick, had agreed to give Messrs. Wright and Hardy the threshing of a crop of grass ; that Wright stated' that they had removed their mill to Kureheka on the strength of this agreement. William Fenwick deposed that he had never made any agreement with Wright relative to the thrashing of his grass seed. If lie had made such an agreement he would have had it in writing. [The case was still proceeding when we went to press. |
