RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THIS DAY. (Before T. W. Parker, Esq., K.M.) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Daniel Evans was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Thames-street.— Fined 10s. STEALING FROM A DWELLING. William Price, on remand, was charged wiih having, on the Bth instant, stolen three Ll-notes, a half sovereign, and 10s., from Jas. Barr, at the Railway boardinghouse, Oiiuiani. The prisoner pleaded Not guilty. Sub-Inspector Smith conducted tin; prosecution. James 'Barr. farm labourer, stated that on the Bth instant lie was staying at the Railway bisn'diug-house. He went to bed about il o'clock. He placed his trousers, with .a purse containing L 4, under his pillow. When he awakened next morning his trousers were on the floor and the money gone. He had torn a piece from the corner of each note and could identify them. He could swear that the notes produced were the ones he had in his purse. He had given information to the police, Bridget O'Donnell, said she kept the Railway boarding-honss. The prisoner came to her house and asked for a bed. She told him be could sleep in the room in which the last witness was. In the morning she noticed that the bed had not been slept in. Peter Neilson, barman at the Northern Hotel, said that the prisoner came to the hotel about six o'clock on the morning of the 9th instant in company with three men, and called for drinks. He changed a Ll-note for prisoner. The note produced was the same. Sergeant Beat-tie stated that he arrested the prisoner. On searching him he found a Ll-note, 135., and some coppers. The prisoner told him he had been in company with Madden, who had changed a Ll-note for him. Witness went to Madden, who gave him the note produced. The prisoner had been in gaol several times. John Madden stated that he saw the prisoner at Julia Ann Paul's house. He played Yankee-grab with him and changed a Ll-note. He gave the note to Sergt. Beattie. The note produced was the one he changed for the prisoner. His Worship sentenced the prisoner to six months' imprisonment, with hard labour.
