January 9. Mr. Reynolds, M.H.R., for Port Chalmers, addressed his constituents last evening, but said very little that was new. He, however, announced his intention of resigning his seat. The following resolution was carried unanimously : " That this meeting desires to express its entire appreciation of the action of Mr. Reynolds during the late session, and regrets exceedingly that through his resignation the constituency is to be deprived of his services." Mr. James Green, who contested the seat with Mr. Reynolds at the last election, will be a candidate for the vacancy, and is certain to be elected.
January 9. The cricket match between the Australian eleven and twenty-two of Invercargill was commenced to-day. The Invercargill men were the fr'st to so to the wickets, and made 8!), of which number Wesney put together 39 (not out) in excellent style, giving only one chance. SpofFoi'th, for the Australians, bowled capitally.
