BURIAL OF THE LATE MR. JAMES WHEATLEY.

The last remains of our late-respected fellow-settler were consigned to the earth to.day. The funeral vorttye was a numerous one, aud comprised, not only the immediate friends, but a number of other admirers of the departed gentleman. Amongst those who came from a. distance we observed Mr. R. H. Lenry (the Mayor of Dtuiedin) and Mr. John M'Lean ; but the majority of those who followed him to the grave were those who had been intimately connected with Mr. Wheat ley during the time ho had resided hi this district, The train, numbering upwards of 300 followers, moved off from the Oamaru Station immediately on the arrival of the train from Maheno bearing the coffin. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Stanley.
