A tv.o-stoivy house at Port Chalmers was burned yesterday. It was insured for L3OO in the South British ; furniture, L2OO, in same office ; L 350 in the Union. Simpson's bakery, in Cumberlandstreet, was destroyed by fire, The premises are insured for L 270 in the South British, stock L2OO in the United Sydney. In the Vincent County Council, Mr. Pyke was re-elected Chairman at a salary of L3OO.
The Herald understands that Angus has given instructions to Messrs. Stewart and Denniston to stop further proceedings in Eegina v. Proudfoot, and asks will the Minister of Justice, or the responsible law officer of the Crown, consent to a nolle prosequi ?
Mr. Simpson reports in favor of Silverstream, and the Council have madej arrangements for securing the Leith waters, which are'now being run into the pipes. This removes all danger of water famine. Sailed —Invercanjill, for London.
