A report of the opening of the bazaar for the Wesleyan parsonage fund, Parliamentary and telegrams from our own correspondents, &c, have been transferred to the fourth page in consequence of the unusual pressure of reading matter and advertisements.

The Committee of the N. A, and P. Association will meet at 9 a.m. on each day of the show at the Secretary's office on the show grounds.

This month's Illustrated Herald contains a number of well-executed engravings. Two are of colonial scenes, whilst the whole are of more or less interest to the friends of colonists in the old country.

Arrangements have now been completed whereby the Mechanics' Institute should become a popular resort for those who are fond of revelling in literature, and of spending a few hours in engaging in popular pastimes. "We recommend our readers to visit the Institute and witness the improvements that have lately been effected. The American Variety Troupe made its dehut to an Oamaru audience last evening at the Masonic Hall. The performers comprise some well-known names. Mr. W. C. Hawkins has visited us several times previousl3 r , and his singing has always called forth the admiration of the audiences that have listened to him. As Ave have before remarked, he has a voice of peculiar quality, and his ballad singing is full of that expression so necessary in the songs which he sings. As usual he was encored on each occasion last night, and always secures the greeting of an old favorite. Onzalo is one of the cleverest trapezans we have seen, and performs feats which are sufficiently hazardous to gratifjr the cravings of the greatest lovers of sensation. His movements are graceful, and just when one would think that he must come to grief, he with celerity almost too quick for perception, attains a position of perfect security. His performance is full of variety, and affords many hints which might be useful to our local gymnasts. The admirers of I!. K. Fmmett will find a good imitator in Mr. George Davenp rt, who is very clever in his line, and dances exceedingly well. The Irishisms of Mr. Scott are very natural, and .altogether the entertainment is one tint is calculated to have a good run during the season To-night a capital programme is to be submitted.

Success crowned the efforts of those who were instrumental in giving the entertainment at Tee street Hall on Wednesday evening for the benefit of a sick and needy member of the Star of Hope Lodge of Good Templars. Mr. Neil Fleming occupied the chair. The amount of the net proceeds of the entertainment, which partook somewhat of the character of those given from time to time in the Hall, is not yet known, but the attendance was very fair, and it is likely to be a sum that will be welcomed by the sick brother of the Lodge.
