OPENING OF THE BAZAAR FOR THE WESLEYAN PARSONAGE FUND.

Shortly after 1 o'clock to-day his Worship the Mayor opened the bazaar which is now being held at the Volunteer Hall for the benefit of the Wesleyau Parsonage fund, and in doing so he said :—lt devolves upon me as mayor to occupy the position.that Ido to-day, and it affords me much pleasure that in my public capacity I am called upon to perform so important a duty as announcing the opening of this bazaar, which is being held for so good an object. I have visited the various stalls, and am much gratified at what I have seen. I have had evidence that the ladies of Oamaru are not behind the ladies of other places in their consideration for the rising generation, for the articles which I have se-n here this morning prepared for their comfort and adornment are numerous. There is another feature which I have noticed, and that is the reasonableness of the prices at which the articles are to be sold. Purchasers will certainly get full value for their money, and the stallkeepers will not, therefore, be under any particular obligation to them. I hope that by tomorrow night the stalls which are now so crowded will be empty, and that, as the result of this bazaar a goodly sum will be handed to the treasurer for the Parsonage fund. I congratulate the ladies on the success which has attended their efforts. Thres cheers were given for the mayor, and, at the suggestion of his "Worship the ladies were similarly honored. The following is a list of the stalls and their attendants ; No. l_Mrs. Wansbrough, Mrs. Kite, and Mrs. Garard; No. 2—Mrs. Galbraith and Mrs. Wilding; No. 3—Mrs. Sbeppard, Mrs. Brownlee, Mrs. McJennett, and Mrs. Burchard ; No. 4—Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. F. Bust, Mrs. H. Sidon, Mrs. J. Oliver; No. 5 Mrs. Armitac;e and Mrs. Reid ; No. 6 (refreshment stall)— Miss Griffin and Miss L. Wansbrough. The number and variety of the articles at each stall are striking, and the attendance such that, considering the nature of the articles for sale and the prices, there can be little doubt as to a speedy clearance being effected. It was our intention to have commented upon some of the articles of merit which met our gaze, but after visiting the whole of the stalls, we came to the conclusion that our sheet would be too strait to contain the names of them all.
