POLITICAL GOSSIP.

[by telegraph, from our own correspondent.]

Wellington, November 8,

The want-of-confidence motion stands after questions, and is third in notices of motion on the Order Paper. The first motion is that by Mr. Rees for L3OOO for representation of New Zealand at the Paris Exhibition. This will probably lead to considerable debate, and the noconfidence motion may not come on. The Government party contend that they are not compelled by constitutional practice to debate Major Atkinson's motion first, seeing that the Government have already given facilities for a similar motion. The Opposition will probably attempt to suspend the standing orders, but as this requires the vote of three-fourths of the House, their success is doubtful. Some of the Opposition say that if much more time is lost, they will remain here to the end of February in order to obstruct business to the utmost.

The latest scare in the lobbies is a proposal to turn the Ministerial residence into boarding-houses for members in view of a probable protracted session.
