WELLINGTON. November 7.

The Post Office and Telegraph Office will observe the Prince of Walts' birthday as a general holiday. This day has been substituted in place of the anniversary of the late provinces. November 8.

Arthur Barnsley, telegraph opreator, who was recently arrested at Sydney and brought back to New Zealand, and who has been several times remanded, was this morning brought before the Resident Magistrate, and committed to take his trial at the next Criminal sittings for forging a money order for ten pounds. Bail was allowed the prisoner.

AUCKLAND,

November 7.

The schooner Wave of Life, from Rarotonga, brings news of the death of Queen Pomare, of Tahiti.

November 8.

The schooner Norval has arrived from Tonga and Samoa. The British Consul at the latter place has written to the native Government levying the following fines:—For a collision between the natives and the Barracouta, 10,000dols.; for insult offered to Commodore Hoskins, 10,000dols ; for surrounding and threatening the British Consulate upon two occasions in the month of July with firearms, 10,000dols ; for various claims made by British subjects, both in present and past times, 300,000d015,, more or less. Pending the decision of Her Brittannic Majesty upon the matter, the islands are held as security, There is every prospect of another outbreak at Samoa, the party now in power (Steinberg's party) are outnumbered by the other faction, and an appeal to arms is expected at no distant date.

HuKITIKA

November 8.

The Christehurch road has been considerably damaged by the late floods. Two landslips have occurred at the Otira Gorge. Near the main road, between Kelly's Creek and the Gorge, is washed away.

Thomas Learmontb, storekeeper, has called a meeting of his creditors. Liabilities, L 11,300 ; assets, L 12,700. The estate is considered good. Sweeps have been drawn on the Melbourne Cnp here within past fortnight for over L 7,000.

NELSON. November 7. The s.s. Albion has arrived. She left the Saudridge Railway Pier on October 30, and experienced northerly winds, arriving oft' Hokitika at noon on Sunday. She wuittd for a tender till ye,sterday morning, when, seeing no chance of communication, she sailed for Nelson, calling at West port, where sue was also not tendtred, and arrived this morning. She sails for Wellington to-morrow morning. By some mistake she was sent away without a purser, and brings uo telegrams or jjlea.
