RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before T. W. Pakukr, Esq., R.M.) WIFE DESEKTIOV. Jolin Coglan was brought up on remand charged with having deserted his wife and five children at Charleston. Sub-Inspector Smith said no reply had been received to his telegram to the Charleston police as to the truth of accused's assertion that lie had sent money to his wife a fortnight since. The accused was then remanded to Charleston. ALLEGED ASSAULT. The adjourned case of Ellen Cover against Laura Manachonche, in which the defendant was charged with having assaulted the complainant on the 17th September, was again called on. The case had been adjourned several times in order to get an interpreter, but one not having been obtained, his Worship suggested that the case had better be allowed to drop, which was done.
The Rev. R. Coffey seems to entertain a more correct than creditable opinion of the representatives of the people now assembled at Wellington. The Post reports him to have spoken as follows during the delivery of a sermon at St. Peter's Church, Wellington.:—" Can we help reflecting oq
