The Metropolitan meeting opentd this morning. The weather was fine, and the attendance large, though the suspension of traffic on the northern lines, in consequence of recent floods, prevented many from attending. People were conveyed to the course by railway for the first time. The line is 72 chains long, and costLSOOO, There is a telegraph station on the course for the first time. Tcmpleton and Equation were favorites for the Free Handicap. The betting generally being even on the field.

Mr. O'Brien's Xantippe... ... (Allen) 2 Mr. Frascr's Equation ... ... (Clark) 3 Traitor and Parthenopcous also ran.
A false start occurred in which Parthcnopojus, Traitor, and Equation went the whole distance before the mistake was discovered, finishing in the order named. At the next attempt the horses got away well together ; Tcmpleton soon went to the front and won in a canter. Time lmin. nlscc.

They were all together at the second turn, and at half distance Trump Card went to the front, winning easily by three lengths. Time—2 iiiiu. 47 sees.
