The Famine Relief Fund amounts to half a million. Mr. Gladstone i:s paying a series of private visits in Ireland. He addressed the students of Dublin University,-and was warmly received. The Blackheath highwaymen have been sentenced to seven years' penal servitude. The Pomeranian bank at Stettin has failed ; liabilities, twenty-six million marks. This has caused wide-spread disaster. Public works are stopped. There has been a Kaffir outbreak on the frontier. Two attacks we*e repulsed. Suleiman Pasha's main army has retreated to Rasgrad.
