HARBOUR BOARD.

v The usual fortnightly meeting of the Board was held to-d;iy at the Harbour Chambers. There were present—Messrs. Sumpter (Chairman), Steward, Lemon, Borrie, Meek, and Gilchrist. MINUTES, ETC. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence read and approved. REPORT OF STANDING COMMITTEE. The report of the Standing Committee was read and adopted. The principal item in the report was a recommendation that the charges on breadstuff's should be assimilated to these of the railway depart, ment, in accordance with a petition from the millers and grain merchants. HARBOUR RAILWAY LINE. On the motion of Mr. Steward, seconded by Mr. Meek, it was resolved, " That the Secretary be directed to write to the members for the district in the General Assembly, advising them of the Government's proposal with regard to the harbour line and the Board's reply thereto, and asking them to give their attention to the matter." MOORING PILES. The Engineering having reported that it would be necessary to obtain 5Q mooring piles for No. 2 wharf, it was resolved to empower the Engineer to call for tenders. PUBLIC WORKS BILL. A telegram was read from the UnderSecretary for Public Works, stating that tiie amended Public Works Bill had been prepared so as to enable the Board to run trains, make bye-laws, rates, and fares, and generally give the powers to the

ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of L'27<>o 17s. 3.1. were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned.
