(skitter's telegrams, per press agency.) ♦ LATEST WAR NEWS. Bombay, August 29, 12.21. A despatch from Sulieinan Bey, on the 26th, says that after ten clays' indecisive fighting the Russians unsuccessfully attacked the Turkish positions. Tn the retreat the Russian loss was 4000 killed. A Russian official despatch of the 29th says they sMll maintain their positions, and the Turks hold the adjoining heights. The Russians are massing before Plevna. 12.33. A Russian official despatch says the Turkish firing on Sunday afternoon and Monday was feeble.
.. The Porte c- mplained to England of Grpek armaments, and threatened to send troops to Athens in the event of a rising at Tliessaly. England remonstrated with Greece, who sent the Porte a pacific note. August 30, 11.19. A despatch from Sulieman Bey says his entrenchments are 100 paces fruin the Russian positions. A Roumanian division lias been ordered to operate in the rear at Plevna. August 31, 10. The Russians had 2400 wounded, including 950 officers, at Shipka Pass. Tl.e number of killed was unknown. The Turks, at Plevna, lost 75.~> men, and 200 guns. DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney. August 31. The markets continue dull ; prices unchanged since last quotations.
