The first step has been taken towards the introduction into Parliament of the Bill authorising the construction of the railway from Oamaru to Naseby. As wil. 1 be seen from our special telegrams, a deputation representing Oamaru, iSTaseby, and Waimate, interviewed the Guveiiment yesterday, for ths purpose of laying before than the plans of proposed the line and a synopsis of the Bill to be introduced by Mr. HiSLor, besides affording the Ministry information as to the mode in which it is proposed to make the line. Our correspondent telegraphs that the Premier seemed favourable to the proposal, although the Government did not give a definite reply as to whether or not they would support the Bill, the introduction of which has been postponed until next Thursday. Whatever may be the ultimate success of the proposal to bind Oamaru and ISTaseby together by a band of iron, there can be no doubt that its supporters are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to secure success. To them the people of Oamaru and the

surrounding districts are greatly indebted for their untiring efforts. If success does not attend their they will certainly not be liable to the charge of not deserving it. With right and common sense on their side, they should certainly win the battle which is now going on between Oainaru and DunGdin for the trade of the interior.
